DESCRIPTION:Featuring scholarly presentations by Shaker Study Group members Christian Goodwillie\, Brece Honeycutt\, and Stephen Paterwic\, the 2026 Dublin Seminar for New England Folklife gathering\, Futurecasting\, Futurekeeping: New Englanders Imagine Worlds to Come\, will be held on June 26–27 at Historic Deerfield. \nThis conference marks the Dublin Seminar’s 50th anniversary by looking both backwards and ahead. While considering our own future\, we will contemplate ways residents of the region (broadly construed) have envisioned\, foretold\, and worked to shape various futures over the region’s long history. Events will include reflection on\, and celebration of\, the Dublin Seminar’s fifty years as a source of scholarship and publication on the everyday life\, work\, and culture of New England’s past. \nThe 2026 seminar will feature a keynote address by Holly Jackson\, Professor of English and Chair of American Studies at the University of Massachusetts\, Boston\, and author of American Radicals: How Nineteenth-Century Protest Shaped the Nation. \nOther speakers will address how New Englanders have envisioned new futures during moments of crisis or uncertainty. SUMMARY:Shaker Heritage Society presents Sounds of Love & Freedom\, composed and directed by Kevin Siegfried
DESCRIPTION:This year marks a once-in-a-generation commemoration year for the Shaker Heritage Society; the 250th anniversary of the arrival of Ann Lee to the site they steward\, and the founding of the American Shaker movement there in 1776. To mark the occasion\, the Shaker Heritage Society will host a choral performance of Shaker music from the Revolutionary period and beyond\, researched and arranged by American composer Kevin Siegfried. Through song\, the performance will celebrate Ann Lee’s legacy as the founder of a movement dedicated to the Revolutionary ideal of liberty\, and a deep commitment to pacifism\, human equality\, and community. \nAfter the concert\, Brother Arnold Hadd\, from the Sabbathday Lake Shaker community in New Gloucester\, Maine\, will appear as a special guest and virtual speaker during a Shaker-inspired communal meal by Navona Catering. \n\n$60 General / $50 Members: Includes 4:00 pm concert and outdoor reception with refreshments and one drink ticket\n$130 General / $120 Members & Volunteers: Includes 4:00 pm concert and outdoor reception with refreshments and one drink ticket PLUS full dinner experience with cash bar and virtual presentation with Brother Arnold Hadd \n\nFor tickets\, visit: Eventbrite \nAs a composer and arranger deeply committed to the performance and preservation of early American music\, Kevin Siegfried has devoted much of his career to raising awareness of Shaker musical traditions. Choral arrangements from his “Shaker Harmony Collection” have been performed and recorded by choirs around the globe. “Lay Me Low\,” one of Siegfried’s most frequently performed Shaker arrangements\, was sung by The Joint Armed Forces Chorus at the State Funeral of President George H. W. Bush. In recent years\, Siegfried has undertaken extensive archival research at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in Maine. This research has led to multiple collaborations with Brother Arnold Hadd\, who carries on the 250-year oral tradition of Shaker song. Collaborations have included concert performances at Sabbathday Lake\, a film for the American Folklife Center entitled “Shaker Spirituals in Maine\,” and the recording of two oral histories for the Library of Congress. In 2024\, Siegfried presented a “Community Sing” at the Library of Congress in acknowledgement of the 250th anniversary of the Shakers in North America. Since 2014\, he has served as composer-in-residence with the Capitol Hill Chorale in Washington\, DC. He teaches at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

DESCRIPTION:In this program organized by the Harvard Historical Society\, Shaker Study Group member Ned Quist presents his new book\, The Harvard Shakers and Their Cultural Landscape\, highlighting his research and use of Shaker journals to tell the story of the Harvard Shakers. \n\nNed Quist is a retired academic librarian\, having spent his career as a music librarian and library administrator at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and Brown University. DESCRIPTION:Each Spring\, Enfield Shaker Museum hosts the Spring Shaker Forum\, an engaging weekend devoted to Shaker history and culture. The 2026 Spring Shaker Forum includes presentations by Shaker scholars\, special activities\, lodging and meals in the Great Stone Dwelling\, and networking with colleagues and friends. \nThe Museum is honored to announce that Brother Arnold Hadd of the Sabbathday Lake Shaker community will be the keynote speaker at this year’s forum.  His subject will be Mother Ann Lee. He will reflect on the centrality of her vision and teachings for Shakers past\, present\, and future.   \nOn Saturday evening\, New York choreographer Reggie Wilson will discuss the impact of sacred movement traditions on his work. He is nationally and internationally recognized for creating dances that draw on the varied histories and spiritual practices of Africa and its diaspora. His piece\, POWER\, reflects both African American and Shaker sacred dance and was inspired\, in part\, by the Philadelphia Shaker community led by Sister Rebecca Jackson.  \nOther presenters include: Jerry Brewington\,  Fran Kramer\, Dr. Carol Medlicott\,  Stephen Paterwic\, Ned Quist\, Ann Sayers\, Becky Soules\, and Dr. Douglas Winiarski.
